Defender Adrian Serioux wants to take Lynx one step further
Re-Signs Following Wide Interest

TORONTO—Thursday, March 22—Following an outstanding season that marked 21 year old Lynx defender Adrian Serioux as one of the top defenders in the A-League—he was voted the Lynx Best Defensive player in 2000—there was considerable interest from top North American clubs in the signature of the right full back who played such a big part in keeping the Lynx goals-against average at a low level all year.

San Jose Earthquakes and DC United of Major League Soccer are just two of the top teams that took Serioux on trial that went as far as exhibition games in Mexico and El Salvador late in 2000 and the interest continued well into 2001. With San Jose he connected with Toronto player and Canadian international, Dwayne DeRosario.

But this week the Scarborough-born under-23 Canadian international re-signed for the Toronto Lynx.

“I really wanted to be back with the Lynx following our great season last year,” said Serioux on signing. “I want to be part of the effort to take the team a step further.”

IMPRESSIVE
Adrian Serioux took to soccer while at the Pope John Paul Secondary School in Toronto and excelled enough as a teenager that he was called up by the Ontario Soccer Association to be a member of the Under 19 Provincial Team.

National honours followed with appearances for the Canadian under 20 and under 23 teams and in 1999 Serioux signed professional forms for the Toronto Lynx.

He was impressive in his first year, playing 22 times on the Lynx defence, but last year Serioux was outstanding and made the A-League Second All-Star Team with team-mate Theo Zagar.

He played 29 regular season and playoff games and his individual fan support took off with his strong performances in the heavy campaign. He was for several games the only defender supported by midfielders during an injury-riddled period that saw Marco Reda, Milan Kojic and Mauricio Vincello out of action at the same time.

The Lynx begin training in earnest on April 2.
