Burn Ties Richmond Kickers, 0-0

RICHMOND - The Dallas Burn and the A-League Richmond Kickers played to a 0-0 draw today in the cold rain at the University of Richmond Stadium. Both teams had several quality chances in the first half as players had difficulty adjusting to the slippery conditions. Dallas' best chance of the half came in the 31st minute on a set piece after Lubos Kubik was fouled just outside of the penalty box. On the ensuing free kick, Jason Kreis' 20-yard blast was parried over the bar by Richmond 'keeper Mike McGinty.

The Burn picked up the pace in the second half and had several opportunities for the game-winner, including a goal that was called back in the 57th minute. Antonio Martinez sent a cross into the box, which was knocked into the net by an onrushing Kreis, who was deemed to be offside. The Burn had yet another golden opportunity in the 70th minute after an attempted clearance by the Richmond 'keeper. The failed clearance found Jorge Rodriguez 24-yards from goal with Rodriguez successfully chipping the 'keeper only to have the ball carom off of the left post.

Since the game was only an exhibition friendly, both teams were able to substitute freely throughout the game, with Dallas making five substitutions throughout the match. Additionally, with it being only a friendly match, both coaches agreed to forgo the overtime period.

The Dallas Burn 2001 season kicks off this Saturday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl vs. the Tampa Bay Mutiny.
