Sounders Continue To Roll With 3-2 Win Over Calgary Storm
Off To Amazing 8-0 Start

(Calgary, AB) - The Seattle Sounders Professional Soccer Club continued its impressive 2002 campaign with a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Calgary Storm on Saturday night.

The win improves the Sounders record to 8-0-0 and they remain the only undefeated team in the A-League.

With the score tied 2-2 in the 90th minute, Sounder midfielder Andrew Gregor placed a corner kick on the head of second half substitute Zach Scott. Scott, a rookie from Gonzaga University, headed the game winner past Storm keeper Lars Hirschfeld.

Forty degree weather and a heavy rain could not keep the Sounders offense off the board. They scored first in the 19th minute when Viet Nguyen netted a beautiful goal courtesy of a Brian Ching assist. The Storm fought back when a questionable call in the 40th minute led to a penalty kick. Defender Conrad Chala rocketed a shot past a diving Preston Burpo and the Storm took a 1-1 tie into halftime.

Jason Farrell put the Sounders back on top with a free kick goal in the 57th minute. His shot bounced through a wall of Storm defenders and past Hirschfeld. The 78th minute saw Storm Kurt Bosch receive a red card ejection. But the Storm held tough and peppered the Sounders defense tying the score at 2-2 in the 72nd minute. Nicolas Zuniga scored the equalizer on a high, long cross that forced Burpo into his net with the ball.

But the Sounders prevailed, scoring the game winner late in the half when Scott scored his first goal of the year.

The Sounders dominated the offensive side of the game out shooting the Storm 13-5.

The win gives the Sounders five more points putting them at 37 for the year and they remain on top of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

The Sounders travel east for the first time in 2002 when they take on the Cincinnati Riverhawks and Indiana Blast on June 14th and June 15th, respectively.

June 22nd finds the Sounders back home at Memorial Stadium when they take on the Hampton Roads Mariners.
