TORONTO, ON—(August 7, 2002)…The Toronto Lynx officially launched today a contest to create a new club logo for the 2003 season. The Lynx are seeking to put a new face on their maturing club with a new emblem that will symbolize the continued growth and development of the club as they go into their seventh season of pro soccer action in 2003.
“Although our fans love our logo it’s time for a new look”, says Chief Operating Officer Nicole Hartrell. “We thought that this would be a fun and dynamic way to get all our fans involved and at the same time underscore our renewed commitment to our pro soccer mission”.
This contest is open to all soccer fans with creative graphic design skills. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2002.
For a full contest description, fans are invited to visit the Toronto Lynx website at www.lynxsoccer.com, or to call the Sales and Marketing Office at (416) 251-4625, extension 23.

Toronto Lynx fans wishing to get a head start on next season can take advantage of the club’s special discounted season ticket package which includes a free 2003, new-style Toronto Lynx jersey, complete with the club’s new logo. Details of this specially priced offer with a flexible payment schedule are posted on the Lynx website and will also be available at the last three regular season home games in August.
LYNX ARE KICKING IT UP WITH CANADIAN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
With the growing soccer talent at the colleges and university level, the Toronto Lynx are seeking creative ways of working more closely with local collegiate soccer teams.
As provincial colleges and universities prepare for the 2002 season, the Toronto Lynx have launched an initiative that will recognize some of the finest talent in our colleges and universities. Following the end of the collegiate season in November, every college and university in the province will be invited to select their top soccer player. Each player selected will be permitted to train and further develop their skills with the Toronto Lynx in the New Year as Toronto prepares for the 2003 campaign.
The candidates will also come together in an exhibition match against the 2003 Lynx in the spring. From this all-star team, Peter Pinizzotto will select the finest player, one from the Colleges and one from the Universities, who will attend the 2003 home opener.
The club also declared that the team’s final regular season home game against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Friday, August 30th has been declared an official “Colleges and Universities Night”. Kick off for the match at Centennial Park Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Toronto Lynx already have a close working relationship with several Greater Toronto Area universities and colleges including Wilfred Laurier University, York University and Humber College. The club is hoping to expand their relationship to include other colleges and universities throughout Ontario.
LYNX SET TO BATTLE WOLVES IN EXHIBITION AFFAIR
In another example of the strengthening relationship between the Lynx and the CPSL, Toronto will travel to St. Catharines to play the 2001 Rogers CPSL Champions, St. Catharines Roma Wolves in an exhibition match at Club Roma Field on Sunday, August 11. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
The Wolves currently sport a 4-4-3 record this season which is good for third place in the CPSL’s Western Conference. The team is led by player/coach Lucio Ianiero who has previous experience playing for Canada’s Olympic team. Another star to watch for St. Catharines is leading goal scorer and former Toronto Lynx forward Carlo Arghittu. The team also boasts a pair of 20-year-old rising stars, Mark Mulholland and Simon Gatti who both have enjoyed solid starts to the season.
“It’s always very exciting when you have an opportunity to play a team from a higher division”, said Wolves General Manager Jim Douglas. “The CPSL is certainly a very strong and competitive league but anytime you have an opportunity to play up against a team from the A-League, the MLS or abroad, you definitely have to take advantage of it. Our team is really excited about playing the Lynx on Sunday and we’re looking forward to a great match”.
Sunday’s game will also be a homecoming of sorts for Toronto Lynx back-up keeper and St. Catharines native James Kryger. The rookie, who has only allowed one goal in two games this year, is expected to start for the Lynx in front of his hometown crowd.
For more information on tickets to the event contact the St. Catharines Roma Wolves at (289)-213-7606 or (905) 646-0865.
