Soccer America's Starting Eleven highlights the internetsoccer.com network

Excerpts from the July 3, 2000 issues of Soccer America.

The Starting 11
Editor's Bookmarks

If you include all the newspapers and college athletic sites posting soccer content, there are literally thousands of websites covering American soccer. Soccer America presents its starting 11: those essential sites for fans of American soccer, all with some unique attributes.

internetsoccer.com
www.internetsoccer.com

Launched last year, internetsoccer.com is locked in battle with goalnetwork.com. Like its competitor, internetsoccer.com is largely international in orientation with a group of affiliates covering aspects of the American game. Worth catching: insightful columns by veteran soccer writer Jerry Trecker and radio broadcasts of TFC events (Gold Cup, Olympic qualifying, etc).

A-League.com
www.a-league.com

The USL has been unable to develop a consistent web presence, so the A-league.com's relaunch this spring - former A-League commissioner Richard Groff retained the URL after the merger of the A-league and USISL - was a godsend for fans of the Division II circuit. The site has no affiliation with the USL. It serves as a portal, offering links to club releases and newspaper stories on A-league clubs, occasional columns and polls.

Soccer Information Systems

SIS's goal is simple, wherein lies the secret to its success. It offers little more than college scores and schedules, but that's an enormous service for those wishing to follow the college game (all levels!) in the fall. Volunteers are recruited to post scores, usually within 24 hours.

Yanks Abroad
www.soccerspot.com

The look to Yanks Abroad, hosted by SoccerSpot, is basic. No fancy design. No photos. But it's a niche site serving an important purpose. It reports on the comings and goings of Americans abroad. Of interest are occasional player journals, notably those penned by Swiss First Division player Melchior Arnold, the ultimate survivor abroad.
